Veative Announces a 5-Year Partnership with Dev Clever and NISA

In a response to the needs of teachers worldwide during this COVID-19 pandemic, Veative Labs has converted its entire STEM library of over 540 interactive, curriculum-aligned modules for the VR into a browser compatible WebXR version, ensuring that students and teachers everywhere have access to this world-leading library, regardless of location. Remarkably, this conversion has occurred over the past couple of months as Veative has raced against the clock to enable existing and future clients to continue to access this library, even without a virtual reality device.
Veative Labs has worked for years to create an impressive collection of STEM modules for learners who are studying biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, using a VR headset. The VR affords students an opportunity to learn by doing through an active learning model which takes a user into a plant to not only learn about photosynthesis, but to experience the process, promoting a deeper connection with that concept and attending to higher order thinking skills, also known as HOTS. Rather than passively watching a video on such a topic, a Veative module exposes the learner to the topic as an active participant, allowing for self-directed, self-paced learning opportunities, which in turn allows for a richer experience.
As Veative has been created for teachers and by teachers from the very beginning, instructor needs have been a significant part of the equation. Though many may correctly feel that the VR is a uniquely personal experience for a learner, which is a key differentiator of this technology, the teacher is definitely not left behind by Veative. In every STEM module, students are presented with assessment questions and activities within the virtual environment, with scores generated from these quizzes being tracked back to a teacher, arming them with valuable data and analytics which allows for the identification of at-risk students and sets up opportunities for early intervention. This greatly enhances a teacher’s ability to stay connected with their charges, and efficiently deal with gaps in understanding as they occur.
Why WebXR is significant
As schools have closed and in-person instruction has been greatly restricted all around the world, unique solutions have been sought after by educators everywhere. Veative, primarily a VR contents company, soon realized that with students at home and access to VR devices which help make these virtual environments come alive was either severely restricted or more likely not at all available. A workable solution needed to be devised, and soon. Drawing upon knowledge gained from a somewhat similar project done with UNICEF in 2019, Veative immediately looked at converting the entire library, which was no simple feat. Veative modules are interactive, which means that a way to “control” the actions within a 360 degree environment would be necessary, without the availability of a VR controller. Work began on incorporating a mouse and keyboard to do the trick. This meant that anyone with a PC (Win/Mac), an internet connection, a browser and keyboard/mouse would be able to access this huge library of resources. Thus, work began. Although this type of work typically requires a very collaborative process, and Veative’s own personnel were remote, the laborious task of working on files, sharing across networks and doing quality control began for Veative staff. This was not an easy assignment, but at the same time was very reflective of the challenging situations felt by many around the world. Fortunately, this work has been successfully completed.
A recent collaboration with Lenovo, the world’s leading provider of education technology, means that in addition to the 20+ countries that Veative currently serves, many more markets will have access to the learning modules created by Veative. Though this partnership was originally created to serve the VR needs of schools around the global, recent circumstances and the reality of a new normal for education going forward means that unique offerings, such as Veative WebXR, are required. This can serve an immediate need at this moment, while also attending to the needs of schools looking for full immersion with virtual reality devices when classes resume.
As Ankur Aggarwal, CEO of Veative notes, “Our company DNA is such that we serve the needs of education… period. If the best way to connect a student with an abstract concept is by way of a VR headset, that is what we work to do. If a pandemic comes along to change that particular need, we will adjust and ensure that teachers have the tools they need to best attend to the needs of their students. That’s not a problem, but a challenge, and we relish that.”
